P2V Conversion when using KVM.

I found this great little article on how to do a P2V conversion when using KVM.

Windows XP p2v conversion with KVM

This will be very useful to me, as I will likely begin using KVM via Red Hat’s new virtualization product. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV).

One of the great ideas in this article is to make a image of the source machine using Clonezilla. How did I forget about this great tool?

-Create image of source P machine using Clonezilla.
-Transfer image to new Virtual Disk. This is the interesting part. RHEV uses standard LVM on it’s LUNS. There are many possibilities to copy the system image onto the target LUN.
-Boot new virtual machine and install VirtIO, etc drivers from RedHat.
